Interview with the Liews

1. What has it been like to be involved @North for the last 2-3 years?

We’ve been blessed by seeing how God has worked in and through all our circumstances in seeing His kingdom grow with some of our new members, and with the depth of relationships we’ve had

2. What have been some of the great challenges the church faced during that time?

We’ve had a few challenges over the last 2-3 years. We had different people coming for different reasons, some of whom were there for the wrong reasons. Some had difficult personalities, needing a lot of support . There was also an initial influx of non English speaking Chinese students, followed by larger groups of chinese students with better English skills. As we were stretched in resources, we had to take many roles in church each week, this included lunch preparations for 30-35 people. We were felt very small when people went on holidays. We were also challenged by the growth in the number of children joining Sunday school juniors/ crèche due to new families joining us. And of course, there was the initial fear and trepidation of leaving the comfort of Cornerstone, and seriously (at times) wondering whether we were going to survive.

3. What were some of the great blessings?

New people who have joined us, and have felt welcomed and who are now continuing to worship with us. Paradoxically, it was also having to serve some of the more difficult visitors that made us grow, and therefore we were blessed. It was also a privilege and encouragement, serving with a small bunch of people; who were always ready to take on new roles and to serve one another, and seeing nearly everyone being involved in the week to week running of the church. Most of all, it was the faithful teaching of God’s word that continued to spur us on.

4. Where do you think God is leading us as a church?

To be bigger and better!! Mostly we are waiting to be surprised by God with what He has in store for us, and praying that we will be ready to obey and take on the challenge.
